A Ring Type Joint Flange (RTJ flange) is designed a groove cut in the sealing surface of the flange. A softer steel ring gasket is placed in the groove, which creates a metal-to-metal seal when the gasket is in compression. This type of flange is designed for high-pressure and high- temperature piping applications.
